The University of the Cumberlands Men's Basketball team (16-7; 5-3) traveled to take on Pikeville College and hosted St. Catharine College this past week. On Thursday the Patriots battled Pikeville College in a back and forth game and were able to pull through with an 81-79 victory. Saturday, the Patriots continued to roll with a 70-62 home victory over St. Catharine College.

The Patriots got off to a good start against Pikeville College and led by nine at the half, 44-35. In the second, Pikeville found their shot, but Cumberlands was able to hold them off and squeak by with the 81-79 victory. Chad Byron (Louisville, KY) had a great game with 26 points to lead the Patriots. Travis Harvey (Decatur, GA) added 13 points and Dustin Fothergill (Somerset, KY) chipped in with 11.

On Saturday, the Patriots came out flat and the Purple Patriots of St. Catharine capitalized on it with a 31-28 halftime lead.

In the second, Cumberlands shot 11 of 17 (66.7%) from the field which allowed them to secure the 70-62 victory. With 9:05 remaining in the game, Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, OH) fouled out and Cumberlands chances looked slim as they were already down. However, Adrion Graves (Cincinnati, OH) came off the bench to save the day for the Patriots. Graves scored an amazing 21 points, all of them in the last nine minutes of play. Brandon Russ finished the game with 19 points and Travis Harvey had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The Patriots will travel to Georgetown, KY to take on Georgetown College on Thursday, February 11, 2010 with tip-off scheduled for 8 PM. On Saturday, February 13th the Patriots will host Lindsey Wilson College at 4:00 PM.

Also, on February 13th, the University of the Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson Men and Women's Basketball Coaches will be wearing tennis shoes and or pink in support of breast cancer. Come and support the Patriots; wear pink and admission will be just $2.00!
