SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - Northwestern (Iowa) used a strong second half to earn a hard fought 82-75 victory over the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in the finals of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Northwestern (35-2) trailed 68-62 with 7:11 remaining in the second half before the Red Raiders used a 15 to two run over a two minute stretch of the second half to take a 77-73 lead with just 2:38 remaining. Senior guard Debbie Remmerde powered the Northwestern offense with 8 points during the stretch, making 6-of-6 free throws.

Ozarks (35-2) was powered on by senior guard Janessa DeMuth who broke the record for most steals in a tournament with 16 in five games. DeMuth powered the Bobcat offense in the first half with six takeaways and 20 points before being held in check by the Red Raider offense in the second half. She managed only four points and two steals in the second frame.

Remmerde led all scorers with 41 points falling just one point short of the all-time, NAIA all-divisions career scoring mark. Remmerde made 11-of-21 field goal attempts, while also making 14-of-14 free throw attempts to lead the Red Raiders. For her efforts Remmerde was named the NAIA Div. II Player of the Year, as well as the tournament MVP.

Seniors Amy Larson and Mandy Carr also contributed for Northwestern with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Ozarks was led offensively by DeMuth who finished with 23 points, while Kayli Combs added 23 points for the Bobcats.

This is Northwestern's second NAIA Div. II National Championship; they won it in 2002 defeating College of Idaho, 77-50. For Ozarks this is the third straight season finishing as the runner up.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - Northwestern (Iowa) used long distance precision to take down Morningside (Iowa), 93-69 in the semifinals of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Northwestern (34-2) rode the three-point shooting precision of seniors Debbie Remmerde and Amy Larson to a large first half lead and never looked back. Remmerde connected on 7-of-10 from long range while Larson hit on 5-of-8 from deep to always keep the Mustangs at bay.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - No. 1 seed Morningside (Iowa) survived a scare from the 2008 version of Cinderella, with an 87-86 victory in the quarterfinals of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Morningside (33-3) looked to be cruising taking a 13 point lead into halftime 49-36, but then the seventh seed Minot State (21-11) found their groove and began to chip away at the Mustangs lead.

Minot slowly but surely began to wear on Morningside taking the first ten minutes of the second half to cut the lead to single digits. The Beavers kicked it in high gear, trailing by nine with 3:42 remaining, Minot State went on an 11 to two run to tie the game at 82-82 with 2:03 remaining.

Minot then picked up their first lead in the game with a runner in the lane by senior Kendra Meyer 84-82. Morningside Junior Dani Gass answered with a circus shot that found the bottom of the net while being fouled. Gass added the free throw to give the Mustangs the advantage with :50. The Beavers answered when Meyer again hit a runner in the lane while being fouled by J.J. Hall. Meyer though missed a free throw that would have put the Beavers up two, instead Minot's lead sat at 86-85.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - No. 2 seed Hastings College (Neb.) gained some much needed momentum defeating Bethel College (Ind.), 75-64 in the quarterfinals of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Hastings (30-5) used a 14-4 run during a three minute span in the first half to gain a 31-21 lead they would not relinquish. During which the Broncos got three pointers from Sarah Cambridge, Kay Broekemeier, and Heather McKeon. Hastings shored up their offense from the second round giving Bethel only five turnovers en route to a 36-30 halftime lead. The Broncos used stingy defense in the second half, not allowing the Lady Pilots to ever close the gap between the two teams.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - No. 1 seed Morningside (Iowa) weather a late surge by fourth seed, St. Ambrose to hold on for a 70-62 in the second round of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Morningside (32-3) jumped out to a quick 14 point lead, fueled by 14 to four run to take command. The Mustangs then seemed to start sleep walking on the Queen Bee's, as St. Ambrose (29-6) began to make a comeback climbing to within six points, 30-24, at the halftime intermission.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - No. 1 seed Bethel (Ind.) sank 5-of-8 free throws with less than a minute remaining in the game to put the Lady Pilots over Dakota State (21-11), 70-67 in the second round of the17th annual NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Bethel (31-3) rode a strong first half from senior guard Natalie Young (10 points) to take a 30-28 advantage into the halftime break.
