PRESEASON POLL: FREED HARDEMAN PREDICTED TO BE TOP DOG IN AMC
Men's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 3, 2015

St. Louis, Mo. – After coming off of an incredible 29-4 season, the Lions of Freed Hardeman University (FHU) have been ranked No. 1 in this year's AMC Men's Basketball Preseason Coach's Poll. Coach Jason Shelton and his crew are poised to build in their first round loss in last year's NAIA DI Men's Basketball Tournament. The Lions lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Missouri Valley by a final score of 71-69.

That hasn't sat well with the team from Henderson, Tenn. Lead by senior Orlando Bass, this team earned themselves a ranking of 9th in the NAIA in the Preseason Poll, and they plan on taking the AMC by storm for the second year in a row, but it won't come easily.

"The AMC is strong this season.  Could be the best in the history of the league.  It will be an exciting season with good basketball though out the conference on a nightly basis," said Shelton.

One of FHU's biggest competitors will be Coach Bob Burchard and his men out of Columbia College. The Cougars take the second place spot in the polls for the AMC and are also ready to break out the starting gates after a first round loss in last year's NAIA tournament. Columbia starts this season ranked 16th in the NAIA Preseason Poll, and they have plenty of optimism about their upcoming campaign.

"We are very excited about our incoming recruiting class," said Burchard in an article from Columbia's athletic page. "We filled some very specific needs, added youth at the guard spot and experience with good size at the forward position."

With 10 returners and a handful of new recruits, the boys from central Missouri will surely be under the microscope as Conference play comes around.

As said by Shelton, the AMC is shaping up to be a tough basketball conference in 2015-16. Park University also finished receiving votes to be ranked nationally, while Lindenwood-Belleville finished just behind Park for fourth in AMC voting.

Former Columbia College Assistant Coach Matt Brock has taken over as head of the Spartans at Missouri Baptist and looks to turn that program around while Harris-Stowe has hired their new coach Alfred "AJ" Williams to spark the Hornets.

Throw in newcomer Central Baptist College into the mix with a handful of competitive programs all gunning for the AMC Championship title, AMC basketball will certainly be worth watching this season.
